Naples Elementary School students are preparing for the future by kicking off a recycling program at the school. With the help and support of Wal-Mart, the students, their families and local residents are encouraged to bring in all plastic shopping bags for recycling.
Private individuals may also take them to the Wal-Mart store and tell store personnel they are recycling the bags on behalf of Naples School.
With each plastic shopping bag filled with the recyclable bags, the school receives $5 cash, and is eligible to receive additional cash grants ranging from $1,000 to $3,000 at the end of the Challenge, which ends on Mar. 30. To receive the additional money, the school must fall within the top 10 schools to recycle the most collection bags in its region.
Wal-Mart is also offering cash grants in the amount of $250 for those that place in the fourth through tenth places within their region, as well as an added incentive for the students placing first, which will include an expense paid, entertaining school-wide assembly.
Local grandmother, Susan Edwards, learned of the program and brought the idea to the attention of Naples School, and ensures that the bags are taken to the Wal-Mart courtesy desk for recycling.
So, what does Naples plan to do with the money raised this year?
According to Linda Lee, the school is currently adding the funds to the savings plan before deciding on specific items to buy. '
