Chester (Chuck) E. Cogburn, 80

| January 5, 2007 8:00 PM

Chuck passed away Dec. 24, 2006 at the Spokane home of his companion Phillis Moore, surrounded by his son Cal, Phillis, and the prayers of all who held him close to their hearts. Chuck was the youngest of twelve brothers and sisters born on July 10, 1926, to SudieAnn and John Cogburn near the Midland-Odessa area of Texas.

Raised in extreme poverty, Chuck left his family at 17 and joined the Navy where he served honorably during WWII.

Following his discharge from the Navy he moved to Montana where he met his future wife Beverly Kennedy to whom he remained married for 33 years.

During their marriage Chuck and Bev raised five children, Sydne, Cal, Jeff, Connie, and Luke. Chuck loved to be outdoors in nature, readily admitting that the company of most animals to be preferable to that of most humans. He was a keen observer of nature and passed his love of the outdoors on to his children.

We would like to express our sincerest thanks to Coy Barfield PA-C at the Spokane VA for his tireless efforts, both professionally and personally, that allowed dad to experience a quality of life despite his medical challenges. Words cannot adequately express our gratitude. Additionally, thank you to the staff at the VA for your caring. Hospice of Spokane team members Kris Englert RN, LouAnn Himel MSW, and Kenny taught dad that strangers can care for others unconditionally.

Any donations in remembrance of Chuck can be made to either the VA or Hospice of Spokane.
