Paul Flinn, an outstanding historian

Paul Flinn has been a resident of Boundary County since 1947.

In November he celebrated his 93rd birthday. For those of you who may not know Paul, his biography can be found on page 280 of the "History of Boundary County Idaho."

However, many of you may know him as a creator of a weekly article in the Herald titled the "OLD TIMER'S COLUMN."

Paul's love of history has compelled him to analyze hundreds of the old Heralds from the 1890's and early 1900s searching for articles that reflected the character of the times.

When writing his column, he would add historical footnotes to aid the reader with clarification.

He often included the names and doings of certain early day residents; knowing that their relatives were still living in the county. I have learned many things about my grandfather who died before I was born. Thank you, Paul.

Along with the "OLD TIMERS COLUMN," Paul has written numerous researched articles dealing with people, places and events in early day Boundary County. Several memorable series were "The Libby Creek Massacre," "The Klockman Diary," "Charlie Brown," and "The Golden Ruby Mine."

Few are as knowledgeable as Paul concerning the Mountain Caribou and the Kootenai Tribe of Idaho. Once again, read the History of Boundary County, Idaho and discover it for yourself.

I consider Paul Flinn to be among Idaho's most outstanding historians.
