PRIEST RIVER — In the first league match up between the Priest River Spartans and Bonners Ferry Badgers, the Badgers came out on top 49-41 in Tuesday night action. The hosting Spartans were slow to find their groove in the first half and were behind 20-12 at half-time.

Whether it was Spartan coach Gary Stewart's motivational half-time speech or finally connecting, the Spartans came out in the third quarter and rolled past the Badgers in scoring by three buckets. The spurt was short lived, and the Badgers rallied by the same three bucket lead in the fourth quarter.

The physical match up was evident in the foul situations, and set the stage for a rematch on Jan. 27 at Bonners. Leading scorer for the Spartans was Tabitha Clark with 13 points and Becky Lowther had 17 points for the Badgers.

With the win the Badgers went to a 8-7 record and Priest River now has a 11-5 record overall.
