Kathryn Rose (Miller) John passed away on Jan. 20, 2007 with her family at her side in Spokane, Wash. The Vigil Service was at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007 at Coffelt's Funeral Chapel, 109 N. Division Ave., Sandpoint, Idaho. The Mass of Christian Burial was at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 6th and Oak in Sandpoint, Idaho with Father Joe Blattner officiating. Burial was held at Pinecrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Sandpoint, Idaho.

She was born Aug. 26, 1918 in New Salem, N. D. to Frank & Gertrude Miller. Kathryn spent her childhood in New Salem, and was a long time resident of North Idaho (Gold Creek, Sandpoint, Bonners Ferry) and Spokane. She married Harold John on June 15, 1939 and they had five children. They spent their early married life in Spokane, Gold Creek, and Sandpoint area. They owned a farm on Pine Street in Sandpoint, at one time milking 20 cows twice a day, and then owned & ran the SouthHill Lockers in Bonners Ferry, Idaho.

Kathryn's greatest joy was having her family around her. Kathryn was a devout Catholic, and church & family holidays were most important to her. Her favorite activities were gardening, fishing for blueback, and huckleberry picking, all of which ended up as either the main course or at the dessert table.

She cooked and canned for years on a woodstove, and was known for her delicious homemade bread. She was the original "mother of recycling", often known to say, "Don't throw that away, it's gotta be worth something!" She loved birds, especially chickens & roosters, which she was fond of hearing. She & Daddy often danced to German polkas, their usual Saturday night past-time. Kathryn will be remembered by all of her children and grandchildren as a caring, giving & loving person. She is survived by her husband of 68 1/2 years, Harold John of Spokane Valley, Wash. & her children Arlene (Russell) Johnson of Pocatello, Idaho, Roger (Janice) John of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, MaryAnn (Ron) Regehr of Peoria, Ill., Raland (Cindi) John of Spokane, Wash. and Sonny (Patty) John of Spokane, Wash.; 12 grandchildren Lori, Sylvia, Cindy and Jason Johnson; Patrick, Ryan, and Robyn John; Gena, Darren and Brandon Regehr; Amanda and Kati John, as well as, six great-grandchildren, and two great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her grandson Branden Regehr, brothers George, John & Frank Miller, sister Tillie Steckler, and their parents Frank & Gertrude Miller. Remembrances or memorial contributions may be made to Hospice. The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice, Sacred Heart Medical Center, and Colonial Court Assisted Living for the wonderful care given to our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister & friend.
