A Family Dog Loving solutions for pet care

As area residents begin planning for summer vacations, camping trips or just a day away from home, many have to overcome the obstacle of who will take care of their four-legged furry friends.
"My husband Steve and I recently completed the expansion of A Family Dog to include a warm, friendly environment for boarding dogs," Karen Schumacher explained. "A Family Dog offers guests a clean, safe and fun environment for play and learning. The indoor runs are clean and ventilated, and all of the dogs are given lots of love."
Karen added that the dogs are taken into the fenced outdoor play area four to five times a day.
"A loved, fed and well exercised dog is a happy dog," Karen said. "I wanted to offer a boarding kennel for families who want only the best for the pet who loves them unconditionally."
Karen added that A Family Dog is the perfect option for those pet owners, because she provides a safe and secure location out in the country. a place to board their pet to please call ahead to reserve a spot.
"We were about half full during our grand opening weekend, which we hope continues to grow over time," Karen added. "If anyone is planning a vacation and considering boarding their dog while they are away from home, please contact me in advance to reserve a spot."
As a professional dog trainer, Karen offers private family dog training, as well as board and train programs. Karen also helps owners/dogs prepare for therapy certification as well as assessment and training for behavioral issues.
In addition to boarding and training, Karen offers clients in home consultation to both evaluate environmental influences as well as the temperament of the dog. Working with family members to set training goals is one of her areas of expertise.
"I feel it is essential for dog owners to get off on the right track," Karen explained. "With newly adopted dogs and especially puppies, it helps everyone to avoid potential behavioral issues. It is much easier to begin the training with the right goals, then to deal with problems later."
In addition to working with a variety of professional trainers from throughout the world, Karen apprenticed under professional dog trainer Becky Bishop, regularly attended training seminars and networked with many trainers in an effort to ensure her expertise.
Karen is a Delta certified evaluator who regularly provides testing and training to area dog owners to assist them in achieving their volunteer goals.
"I believe every dog deserves a "second chance," she said. "I am excited about assisting shelter efforts in our area. I am thrilled to work with a variety of dogs and families because I enjoy the challenge of motivating the dog to learn as well as the family, to appreciate the abilities and devotion of their pet."
Karen added that she is not a method trainer, rather, she offers a wealth of experience in combination with a variety of handling skills to each situation.
