Forest Braden & youth dominate KR Run

Despite the strong winds blowing through the area last Saturday, runners in the 2007 Kootenai River Run (KRR) faced only minor problems.
The biggest difficulty runners had to contend with was that many of the course signs were blown down by the wind.
"We had runners from throughout the Inland Northwest and Canada register this year, which made it the highest turnout since 2004," said Jim Cadnum, one of the event organizers. "The total number of people registered in the 5k and 10k runs, we had a total of 132 participants finish the run."
Cadnum added that Boundary County residents were highly supportive this year, including one former resident, Roberta Zimmerman, who drove up from Pocatello to run.
"Boundary County native and nationally ranked runner Forest Braden claimed the male 10K division win with an impressive time of 32:06," Cadnum said.
"It was an honor to have an athlete of Forest's ability compete in our local run. Phil "The Wick" Wichman's time of 42:19 earned him the second place spot. And with a time of 44:16, local runner Genny Hoyle took the first place female trophy, with Roberta Zimmerman claiming the second place slot with a time of 46:58. Forest, The Wick, and Genny are all past KRR winners."
Michael and Allison Tuinstra of Appleton, Wis. were recognized as the runners who traveled the farthest to enter the race.
Lynn and Karen Aase, who were visiting this area from California also entered the race, as did nearly two dozen youth from Boulder Creek Academy and Echo Springs.
"In the 5k, the first place male winner was Josh Mitchell from Timberlake High School with a time of 20:59, with Tyler Pauls taking second with a time of 22:02," Cadnum said. "In the female division, Melody Braden claimed first place with a time of 21:34, and the second place trophy went to Cindy Ryan whose time was 23:11. Both Melody and Cindy have placed first in past runs."
One of the biggest winners of the day was Ada Bonnell, a young lady who not only placed second in the 5k for her age group, but also won a new pair of running shoes in the drawing during the post-race awards ceremony.
"The Kootenai River Run scholarship recipients were also announced at the awards ceremony, with this year's scholarships going to Casey Hampton and Brennan Tymrak," he said. "The organizers and scholarship recipients appreciate the support of the runners and members of the community who helped to make this year's run a success."
Cadnum and all of the event organizers wanted to thank the following businesses and individuals for their continued support: Forest Capital and Boulder Creek Academy for sponsoring the run, and whose generous contributions helped to cover the cost of the T-shirts. Safeway, for contributed fruit for the finish area. All the generous donations from local merchants that were used as door prizes. The Bonners Ferry Herald, for helping to promote the run by publishing a pre-race article and the entry form, and the Bonners Ferry Rotary Club for helping to organize and providing course marshals and pre-race volunteers.
"We also want to thank the Volunteer Ambulance crew for standing by at the finish area, and Dan Young for providing inspirational music at the south end of the bridge," Cadnum said. "We owe as special thanks to Pat Carson for designing and manufacturing the first place trophies, Shari Cossairt for managing the finish line, Brenda Woodward for designing and embroidering the T-shirts, and Tina Carson for making a generous contribution for advertising the run. I want to also thank Mike Weland for all his help with the Kootenai River Run website."
Cadnum also thanked the members of the race committee and all the other volunteers. The 2008 Kootenai River Run is set for late June
