Badger tracksters compete in Lewiston

The Bonners Ferry High School track team traveled to Lewiston, Idaho for the annual Ice Breaker Invitational Track Meet on Saturday, Mar. 17. The weather was warm and sunny, and many athletes were able to post personal bests.

Leading the charge was the defending state titlist, Kaitie Poston. She notched two more gold medals as she threw 42'10" in the shot put and 142'6" in the discus. Kaitie was also named outstanding field event athlete for the meet.

Samantha Hiatt grabbed the silver medal in the pole vault and posted a person best of 9'6". She also placed 4th in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 51.6 and 6th in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.45.

Casey Hampton was 7th in the 800 meter run at 2:30.83 and 7th in the 1600 meter run at 5:48.37.

Freshman, Erin Hiatt ran to 5th place in the 400 with a time of 63.09 and anchored the medley relay team of Samantha Kelly, Emily Pauls, and Samantha Hiatt to a 5th place finish time of 2:01.10.

Melody Braden anchored her 4x400 meter relay team of Erin Hiatt, Mandy Sandaker, and Casey Hampton to a 4th place finish at 4:34.45.

One the boys end, Daniel Botkin posted a time of 42.51 in the 300 meter hurdles and anchored his 4x200 and 4x 400 meter relay teams of Colton Watt, Mark Chrisman, and Javier Sale to 6th place finishes with times of 1:37.84 and 3:47.53.

Kurt Carey finished just out of the money in the shot put with a throw of 42' 3". Coaches Hays, Hinthhorn, Reifsnyder, and Hampton were pleased with their athletes performances and look forward to a successful season.

The next badger meet is at Timberlake High School on the Mar. 29, and their home debut with their invitational on Saturday, Mar. 31.
