Lacrosse team takes a double loss
What a difference a week makes. Last week the Bonners Ferry lacrosse team played in three jamboree games at Gonzaga Prep, and won two games and tied Sandpoint in the other game.
This past week we traveled to Richland, Wash., where we played Hermiston, Ore., Lacrosse Club on Friday night and the Three Rivers Lacrosse Club on Saturday morning.
Like last week, we traveled with 14 players, however, this past weekend we were not as successful.
Each of our opponents had squads of 30 and 27 respectively.
In the game against Hermiston we stayed with them for the first three quarters, and at the end of the third period they were ahead 10-8.
We simply ran out of gas in the fourth quarter, and Hermiston scored 6 unanswered goals.
The final score was 16-8. Davis Kline and Jozef Musial both had excellent scoring chances but were denied by and outstanding performance by the Hermiston goalie.
Our goalie, Michael Medrud, made 21 saves in the game keeping the game close through three quarters.
In the game against Three Rivers we made a better game of it, tied up 4 all at the end of third quarter.
However, again we ran out of gas in the fourth quarter, and Three Rivers won game with a final score of 5-4.
Our high scorer for a second straight week was Hayden Wickersham who scored 7 goals in the two games while Kelly Skaggs and Tyler Williams each nodded two goals and Aaron Hoisington scored one goal.
Our home field at the fairgrounds has been striped and we have finally been on grass to practice for the first time on Monday.
We are taking this opportunity to improve our ability to get ground balls and become familiar with the use of the entire field to practice our offense and defense plays.
This week we start our league season with our opening game against Gonzaga Prep on their artificial field under the lights tonight at 7 p.m.
Our home opener is against Sandpoint on Mar. 28 at 5:30 p.m.
Come out and show your support for our local team.
