Disability advocates coming to Bonners Ferry
Are you one of the approximately 200 families in our community who has a child receiving Special Education? Join other parents for a free advocacy training on Saturday, May 5, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Boundary County Extension office. Learn about laws that guarantee ALL children EQUAL access to education REGARDLESS of abilities.
Comprehensive Advocacy (Co-Ad), Inc. is sponsoring this free training, which according to their website, Co-Ad was founded in 1977 and is designated by the Governor as the Protection and Advocacy System for the State of Idaho (a federally mandated program). They are the only legal rights organization in Idaho exclusively for people with disabilities. Their mission is to assist people with disabilities "to protect, promote and advance their legal and human rights, through quality legal, individual and system advocacy."
According to those who have been here longer than my eight years, this is the first time Co-Ad has ever offered training like this in our region.
Please don't miss this opportunity, and don't forget to head downtown afterwards to also enjoy the Cinco De Mayo Salsa Festival.
