Fatality crash claims one

A fatality crash claimed the life of a 34-year-old Montana woman and injured her 44-year-old passenger.

At approximately 7:49 p.m., Tuesday night, Boundary County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) dispatch reported a single car crash on US 2 just past the Moyie Springs Store.

Idaho State Police (ISP) Troopers Leslie Lehman and Kevin Bennett, as well as sheriff's deputies and emergency personnel from Boundary County Ambulance, responded to the scene.

According to the ISP report, Lynn M. Smith of Troy, Mont. was traveling east on US 2 in a 1998 Mercury Sable when she failed to negotiate a curve, drifted off the right side of the roadway, and rolled down an embankment. The report also said that Smith was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.

Her passenger Toby J. Jones, also of Troy, Mont., was transported to Boundary Community Hospital for unknown injuries, and according to the report, he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

According to a spokesperson from Boundary Community Hospital, Jones was released to home on Tuesday evening.
