As the Naples Gallery kicked off its spring season with a grand reopening last Friday, guest artist Jerry Pavia, highlighted the evening with his creative and unique nature and wildlife photography.
A new aspect to Pavia's displays are the original writings of his wife Ingrid, who provides her personal perspective of his photographs.
"We believe a show of images in conjunction with Ingrid's writings helps to create a different dimension, which allows the viewer an alternate perspective of my photographs," Pavia explained. "It also opens the door for the viewer to develop his or her own individual perspective of my art."
Naples Gallery owner Suzanne Lublin, will display Pavia's photography throughout the month of May, and she encourages local residents and visitors to the area to stop by and experience the beauty of these photographs.
Pavia's next stop this summer for his photography includes an opening of his "Platinum Prints" in White Horse on July 14, as well as several other showings throughout the U.S. and Canada.
In 2010, he will hold a showing in New York City entitled "Yellowstone to Yukon: Corridors."
"Although to most people 2010 seems like a long time down the road, but for me it is just around the corner when I consider all that I have to do to prepare for this show," Pavia said. "I will showcase my nature and wildlife images of the Yellowstone to Yukon ecosystem, and attempt to show people the beauty of that region."
Pavia began his career in photography in 1983, and since that time he has been the sole or principle photographer of 15 books including one of his own entitled "Rocky Mountain Wildflowers."
"Over the years, I have taught myself through trial and error how to see and translate my vision through a photograph," Pavia said. "I have never taken a class on photography or read a book on how to be a photographer. What I do as a photographer is chase the light, once I find it, I dance in it."
The Naples Gallery is open Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., or for more information on the art class schedule call 267-6575.
