Badger duffers overawed at state on first day

The young Badger golf team did remarkable things this year.
Some of those things included taking the district title.
However at state the pressure threw them off their game, and they fell out of contention after the first day of play.
"These guys should definitely not be hanging their heads," said Coach Chad Deitz. "We had a great year with winning the district title. We are a young team, and with everyone coming back next year, we should be more of a factor if we can get back to state."
The Badgers did get in a good, relaxed practice on Sunday at Prairie Golf Course in Post Falls, shooting a 318.
However, they tensed up under the pressure of facing the top 11 teams in 3A play at state, shooting 354.
Only the top four teams advanced to day two, and as expected, Shelley once again took control and won the state title.
Taylor Garbutt led the Badger effort, posting an 84, followed by Carey Reynalds and Derek Deitz, both shooting 89.
Trevor Koberstein finished with 92 strokes, Dillon Deitz came in with 94.
