A.J. Bennett scores game-high 20 points in loss to Sandpoint
Bonners Ferry Senior A.J. Bennett scored a game-high 20 points and dished out seven dimes during the Badgers' Saturday night 69-54 loss to Sandpoint in a non-league game.
Badger Ryan Winebark had nine points and eight rebounds. Miguel Mendez made nine points and four assists, and Andrew Galloway chipped in eight in the losing effort.
"I liked our aggressiveness; for the first game it was pretty good," said Badger coach Gordon Allured.
Sandpoint Senior Alex Crossingham scored three, first quarter 3-pointers. Crossingham finished with 14 points, going four of five on his three-point attempts, including two quick daggers in the first minute of the game to set the tone.
The Bulldogs' Spencer Swerin finished with 18 points, 13 rebounds and four steals, the beneficiary of outside shooting. He scored 10 points in the second quarter, helping the Bulldogs (1-0) build a nine-point halftime lead.
Tanner French scored 10 points, and Ryan Armbruster added 10 points, five assists and three steals to lead four Bulldogs in double-figure scoring.
Bonners Ferry's next game is 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7 in Moscow.
