Lifelong Boundary County resident Ruby Maxfield was the first to order a limited edition reprint of Vol. 1 of The Boundary County History Book.

Maxfield on Monday got her first look at the 665-page book, which contains 1,335 family histories, 1,000 family pictures, 500 county pictures and 18 maps.

"It's people I know and I thought it would be a good thing for my son to have," said Maxfield, a one-time elementary teacher in the county.

Boundary County Historical Society sponsored the book's reprint, which was digitally reproduced by Thompson-Shore in Dexter, Mich. The books are available at Bonners Books in downtown Bonners Ferry.

The book also will be available at the Disabled Veterans Craft Fair on Friday, Nov. 30, and Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Boundary County Fairgrounds. An introductory price has been established through the end of the year.

The book was originally published by the historical society in 1987 and has been out of print for years. The project was master minded by Karen Hubbard. Hundreds of people contributed to the book, which has 65 endowment pages that include business histories, additional family history and photos, tributes and memorials.

The pictorial volume 2 is now out of print. The historical society is gathering family histories, stories and photos to create a combination volume including the reprint of volume 2 and a new volume 3.
