Teaching of the Bible should be done at home, church

| November 30, 2007 8:00 PM

Regarding "Teaching of Bible requested for BCSD:" All scriptures have an element of history based on what is happening at the time of the literative narrative.

I question Mr. Pifer's statistics that "200,000 students in 1,600 high schools representing 430 school districts in 37 states study the Bible, and wonder if that is not skewing the facts.

Is this the case when Biblical teaching are part of an after school study group or a history of religion elective?

If over a 10-year period, a half a million dollars (plus considering books and increases) is paid for by tax dollars, it seems it would be for a history of religion course and include teaching of Judaism based on the Old Testament, Mormonism based on the Book of Mormon, Hinduism based on the Bhagava-gita, and Islam based on the Koran.

This, of course, brings into play who in this small town is qualified to teach the nature and will of God as revealed to man through all these texts. I say simplify and keep these teachings in homes and churches.
