BF volleyball team to play Timberlake at districts

The Bonners Ferry Girls Volleyball Team at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, will play Timberlake for the opening of the district tournament in Post Falls.

The first- and second-place teams will advance to the state tournament. The Lady Badgers finished fourth in the Intermountain League.

"The Badgers are heading into districts with high expectations and plenty of confidence," said head coach Janis Tucker. "We can't overlook Timberlake, so we are focusing on one game at a time."

"I expect all of the team to do well," Tucker continued. "We have made great strides in improving our overall game. We are more consistent, we talk more on the court, we are serving tougher, and passing more accurately."

In the final regular game of the season, Bonners Ferry defeated Timberlake. Match scores were 25-17, 13-25, 25-15 and 25-12.

Senior Hannah Cady led with 9 kills followed by junior Ashley Winkelseth, 7; junior Michaela Dirks, 6; and senior Samantha Kelly, 5.

Junior Hayley Olson had 20 assists and senior Kristina Turpin added 15.

Winkelseth had 5 blocks.

Dirks had 6 aces and Olson added 5.

Dirks also had 5 digs.
