The Bonners Ferry varsity football team travels to Timberlake Friday, Oct. 26, for a playoff game against the Tigers.

The Badgers two weeks ago lost to top-ranked Timberlake 55-22.

As for last Friday s game, Bonners Ferry finished its regular season with a 62-18 loss to Kellogg. The 3A Badgers ended up 2-2 in the Intermountain League and 2-5 overall.

During the game against Kellogg, senior quarterback A.J. Bennett scored touchdowns on 74- and 18-yard runs. Bennett also completed a pass to senior receiver Ryan Winebark for the team s third touchdown.

Badger Head Coach Ed DePriest summed up his first season at the helm as challenging.

This has been an unusual year numbers-wise, said DePriest.

Only 14 players were available when the season opened. Most were underclassmen.

DePriest said he expects a young team next year.

We ve got a lot of young kids. A good freshmen group and some good sophomores, he said. Hopefully, the kids will get in the weight room in the off-season. If the kids work hard, there s a really good future.

It takes time to build a program, DePriest continued. The key is everybody buying into it. You win in the off season between December and August in the weight room and doing things in an off-season conditioning program. It s too late if you wait until August.
