Cancer Society spaghetti dinner success

| October 26, 2007 9:00 PM

The American Cancer Society's spaghetti dinner that was held on Thursday, Oct. 11, was a great success.

People remarked that the food, conversation and cause were all great.

We proudly sent the American Cancer Society a cashier's check for $1,230.65 with most of this money benefiting our local region. This is the most money ever raised at the annual dinner.

A big thank-you goes out to Ron Erickson and the people at the Chic-N-Chop for hosting this dinner for the past 27 years. We thank Ron for all the prep work and for slaving over heaps of hot spaghetti for the entire event.

Thanks to Erma Clark, who can always be counted on to be our cheerful and competent cashier.

A high-five to all those working in the kitchen and to the wonderful servers who typically put in a full day's work and then volunteer to work the spaghetti dinner as well. These people include Matt Houston, Carrie Hamilton, Alicia Tatum, Kristyn Erickson, Connie Billingsley, Toni Pennock and Lex Becker.

Thanks to Valdie Burkholder-Dean for procuring supplies. Thanks also to Safeway for providing the parmesan cheese for the dinner and Litehouse in Sandpoint for the salad dressing.

The street-side promotional crew, who got more than a few people to stop for dinner by waving signs, deserves kudos too — Rockey Burkholder and Marty Becker, thank you.

Nicole Barnes, the American Cancer Society's representative who supplies our tickets and flyers, was of great help too.

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, we thank the hungry patrons, many of whom come year after year for your support and generosity

We will see you on a Thursday in October 2008 at the Chic-N-Chop.
