The Bonners Ferry High School boys soccer team won 3-1 Aug. 31 in a home game against Stillwater Christian School from Kalispell, Mont.

Scorers were Miguel Mendez at 4 minutes, Alex Mendez at 36 minutes and Cedar Bolton at 65 minutes.

"(There was) good solid play from younger players and aggressive tactical performance from the veterans," said coach Wayne Wilkerson.

During their Sept. 5th game, the Badgers lost 2-3 against St. Georges.

"We expected a tough game and St. Georges delivered," said Wilkerson.

Miguel Mendez and Rob Hart each scored one goal.

"We are dealing with several injuries among our experienced players, which we hope will have time to heal before we meet St. Georges again," said Wilkerson.

On Sept. 6, Bonners Ferry junior varsity defeated Coeur d' Alene 7-2.

"This game gave our younger players a good opportunity to improve their skills," said Wilkerson.

Miguel Mendez scored three goals. Jody Wilkerson, Alex Mendez, Mark Chrisman and Andrew Galloway all scored one goal.

On Sept. 7, Bonners Ferry lost to Libby, Mont., 1-2.

"Libby brought their game faces to Bonners Ferry. They played a very aggressive game and seem to have a skilled and cohesive team," Wilkerson said. "Libby started both the first and second halves with a quick goal.

The Badgers played without four starters due to injuries, but put up a very good fight.

"The younger players stepped up and gave it their all," Wilkerson said. "The veterans played a strong and quick tempoed game which gave the Loggers a run for their money."

"Miguel Mendez scored in the final minutes of the game," he continued. "The boys have a week off from any games which should give the injured players a well deserved rest and time to heal."
