During the Riley Creek Invite in Sandpoint Saturday, Bonners Ferry senior Melody Braden finished fourth to pace the third-place Badgers.

Braden completed the race in 19:46 — a personal best. Kinsey Gomez from Coure d'Alene took first with a run of 18:21.

Also placing for the Lady Badgers were Sam Hiatt, 14th at 21:50; Erin Hiatt, 15th at 21:58; and Molly McClintock, 17th at 22:04.

"I was pleased with step-up and stand-out performances from the girls team, specifically from individuals such as Molly McClintock and Riley Boorman," said Badgers Head Coach Paul Bonnell.

Lake City won with 42 points followed by Sandpoint 58, Bonners Ferry 76, Coeur d'Alene Charter 134, Coeur d'Alene 138, Timberlake 162, Lakeland 162, Kellogg 172 and Priest River 264.

The girls will run in the Farragut Invite at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22.

Sweeney runs personal best

Bonners Ferry runner Dylan Sweeney ran a personal best of 18:50 during Saturday's Riley Creek Invite in Sandpoint.

Also for the Badgers, Devri Solomon, Riley Boorman, Marti Wright, Nathan Grow, Aaron Stockdale, Jake Watt and Reid Boorman made significant decreases in time on the 5K course, said head coach Paul Bonnell.

"There may have been other personal records too," Bonnell said. "I was very impressed with freshman Reid Boorman's step-up in this, his third race."

Despite their showing, the Bonners Ferry boys placed ninth out of nine teams. Lake City won the meet with 21 points followed by Coeur d'Alene with 47, Timberlake 112, Sandpoint and Kootenai, both 113, Kellogg 161, Lakeland 182, Priest River 189 and Bonners Ferry 231.
