Free tax assistance available in Bonners

| April 4, 2008 9:00 PM

It's time to quit procrastinating and take care of your annual job by April 15.

It's time to raise your hand and tell the Internal Revenue Service that you're here and please send your stimulus check. The IRS computer doesn't know you're still around, so you have to tell them.

If you have already filed for the year, you are signed up for the stimulus and you don't have anything else to do.

If you haven't filed, let's do it. It's confusing, but it's fairly simple. If you haven't had to file because all you have is Social Security, veteran's pension or some other small pension and maybe a small amount of interest, that's what you file on.

If you would like help getting filed, let an AARP tax-aide site assist you. We will be glad to file and e-file for you.

There is a site near you: Bonners Ferry Senior Center, Clark Fork Library, Sandpoint Senior Center, West Bonner District Library, Newport Hospitality House, Blanchard Library and Spirit Lake Library.

Remember that the stimulus checks are not going to be sent until May or June.

You do not have to belong to the AARP to take advantage of this free program.
