A public hearing for the proposed construction of a 110-unit storage complex north of Bonners Ferry will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at Boundary County Courthouse.

Developer Edward Alvarado did not wish to comment when contacted by The Herald.

According to his application with Boundary County Planning and Zoning Commission, Alvarado would like to construct up to 10 buildings on 4.7 acres on U.S. Highway 95 south of Camp Nine Road.

Access to the units would be from an off-highway, private drive. An estimated 20 vehicles per day would use the facility, which would be fenced with a lockable gate. Reliable Storage would be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the winter and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the summer.

The facility manager would live on site.

Alvarado needs a special-use permit for the development.

Mike Weland, zoning administrator for the county, said the Camp Nine area is located in an area zoned for farming and single-family homes with a minimum of five acres. There are exceptions, including for a storage facility.

The planning and zoning commission will accept public comment during the hearing. The commission will then make a recommendation to county commissioners for approval or disapproval.

The deadline for written comment and material is 5 p.m. May 8. Written comment may be mailed to Boundary County Planning and Zoning, P.O. Box 419, Bonners Ferry, ID, 83805; faxed to 267-1205; or sent by e-mail to planning@boundarycountyid.org.

Written comment will be accepted at the public hearing provided the material is read into the record. There may be a five-minute limit per person on verbal testimony.
