Ashley Gilbertson led the Badger softball team to their first win of the season.

Gilbertson walked two and struck out two during a 19-4 victory over Troy, Mont.

The Badgers scored 8 runs in the first inning, and added 6 in the second, 4 in the third and 3 in the fourth.

The Lady Badgers showed strong hitting with doubles by Desi Aitken, Kayla Miles and Gilbertson, and a triple by Janet Farrell. Chelsea Taggart, Caitlin Clausen, Rebecca Farrens, Sam Johnson and Katie Avery hit singles.

Troy could not answer the Badgers’ strong hitting and running, scoring only 2 runs in the second and 2 in the fourth.

In an earlier game against Troy, it was a tough go for the Badgers, who were plagued with errors. After the third inning, Bonners Ferry lost 5-21.

The Badgers led 4-1 through the second inning. Taggart and Samantha Manley scored first, and stole their way around the bases including home. Clausen hit the RBI to score Cassie Stephens and then stole home for 4 runs in the first inning.

The Badgers’ final score in the third came from another RBI from Clausen with Stephens scoring.

Capitalizing on strong running and Badger error, Troy came back to win.
