Arthur Marcotte

Arthur Marcotte, 83, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2008, at Boundary Community Hospital in Bonners Ferry.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. today, Aug. 7 at the Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno, Calif.

Art was born Aug. 17, 1924, in New Bedford, Mass., to Arthur and Annie Marcotte.

Art was a veteran of the Army in World War II, where he served as a military policeman in France for most of the war.

He married Betty Arsenault on Aug. 10, 1947; she preceded him in death in 1966. Art married Ida Basta in 1969.

From the late 1950s until 1972, Art was a maintenance man for Fremont School District in Fremont, Calif. In 1972 he owned and operated a chain of delicatessens in Sacramento, Haywood and Oakland, Calif.

Art was an astute businessman and continued operating his delicatessens until the late 1990s when he retired.

Art was known as 'the Muffin Man' in Sandpoint, and he lived his last years surrounded by family and loved ones.

Art was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Art is survived by his children, Rick and Eileen Marcotte and Lea Quist; a brother, Ray Marcotte; grandchildren Danae, Katie, Christopher, Mathew and Solange; and five great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by brothers Armond and Francis Marcotte.
