Robert Eugene Smith, 78, lost his battle with cancer on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008.

Robert passed peacefully in his sleep.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, at Free Methodist Church in Bonners Ferry.

Robert was born July 27, 1930, in Cortland, N.Y., to Theresa Nancy (Mead) and Preston Winfield Smith.

After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and traveled many years in the service.

Robert then met and married MaryLou Yeakel in 1963 in Pennsylvania.

Robert was honorably discharged in 1964. He and MaryLou then raised four children.

Robert loved to work with his hands rebuilding cars, home and away maintenance.

In 1998, Robert and MaryLou divorced and Robert bounced around for a while. He then met and married Kathryn Smith.

Robert and Kathryn lived happily together for 10 years. Robert was a very loving and caring dad, grandfather and husband, and we love and miss him every day.

Robert is survived by his loving wife, children Debbie, Stacie, Chris, Keith, LaRai', Steven, Sharon, John, Linda and Janice; and grandchildren Amber, Tiffany, Christian, Kelsey, Robert, Alexsandra and Damien; and many more.
