Bakery opens near Three-Mile

| December 11, 2008 8:00 PM

After growing up in the food-service industry, partners Charles Schrock, and Darrell and Dorothy Chubb opened a bakery on Tuesday north of Three-Mile.

“There isn’t one around here, but in the stores,” said Dorothy Chubb, who will do all the baking for the Bread Basket Bakery on Highway 95.

The bakery is located in a new 18,000-square-foot building constructed by Panhandle Nail Benders.

It is filled with alder cabinets made by Schrock, who also owns Cabinets Northwest in Bonners Ferry and granite countertops from Idaho Granite Works. The outside is landscaped with a water feature created by Travis Leirmann, owner of Outdoors by Design.

Bread Basket Bakery will offer homemade doughnuts, cinnamon rolls, bread and pies, and a delicatessen with soups and sandwiches. The bakery also will serve locally roasted brews from Dobson Creek Coffee.

“A lot of my recipes come from things my mother and aunts cooked when I was growing up,” said Dorothy Chubb, who has been baking for over 20 years and sold baked goods at the Bonners Ferry Farmer’s Market for the past couple years. “Everything will be homemade from scratch.”

To reach Bread Basket Bakery, or to order a large quantity of a baked goods, call 267-4100.

The bakery will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
