Girls defeat Kellogg 38-21
After getting a late start on Friday night, the Bonners Ferry Badgers walked into Kellogg’s Andrews Gymnasium and took care of business, defeating the Lady Wildcats 38-21 in varsity girls basketball action.
Bonners Ferry opened an early lead with points from Ashley Winkelseth and Catlin Clausen to build a 4-0 advantage. The Badgers would stretch the advantage to 8-0 on a pair of free-throws from Alicia Hedrick and a field goal from Clausen for an 8-0 Bonners Ferry lead after Kellogg failed to score in the first quarter.
“I like the fact that we came out and got the lead early,” said coach Travis Hinthorn. “We did a much better job of running one-man offense.”
Kellogg got on the board early in the second quarter as Kacie Calabretta hit the first Wildcat field goal. Jordan Day added another Kellogg score to get the Wildcats within a 14-4 score. The Badgers followed with a 6-3 run to take a 20-7 halftime lead.
Bonners Ferry opened up and took a 30-12 lead after the third quarter.
Kellogg outscored the Badgers 9-8 in the fourth quarter, scoring 5 of the final 7 points in the Intermountain League opener.
Erin Hiatt had a game-high 10 points to lead the Lady Badgers.
Jordan Day had 4 points to lead Kellogg.
