Jim MacDonald, 80

Jim MacDonald, 80, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, in the Extended Care Facility at Boundary Community Hospital from pneumonia.

Jim had a stroke in July 2003 and had lived at the Extended Care Facility and Ace Elder Care since that time.

Jim was born Oct. 6, 1928, in Cadillac, Saskatchewan, Canada. He was sixth oldest of 11 children.

Jim was 6 weeks old when his parents moved to Sandpoint, where they lived for six months and then moved to Bonners Ferry, where Jim spent most of his life.

He was a Korean War veteran, serving as a military police officer at Camp Jordan, Ga.

Jim married Roberta Baker.

Jim’s life was spent “breaking and shoeing” horses, and working for farmers and saw mills.

He loved building decorative gun racks, shelves and lawn ornaments. His favorite saying was “Anybody told you they love you today? Well Jim does,” to which you were to respond “I reciprocate.”

He is survived by a son, Donald James MacDonald Howell of Spokane, Wash.; grandchildren Anthony and Cynthia; four great-grandchildren; brothers Dan (Karlene) and Ken (Karen) MacDonald; sisters Doris (Lester) Howard, Donalda (Myrel) Howard, Annie Ritz, Jessie (Paul) Schlener and Ruth Hoglan; sisters-in-law Mildred MacDonald, Donna MacDonald and Estelle MacDonald; and brother-in-law Larry Hoglan; and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents Donald James and Amelia McKay MacDonald; brothers Allan, Bill and Ralph; brother-in-law Chet Ritz.

Jim was cremated and a graveside service will be held the third week of July 2009.
