Bavarian Apple Torte great dessert

| February 9, 2008 8:00 PM

"Cooking with Sarah" will run weekly. The column features recipes submitted by readers.

This week's recipe was submitted by Donna Capurso. She is a broker at Selkirk Mountain Real Estate. Donna has been making this Bavarian Apple Torte for years.

"This is a great dessert for a special occasion," she said.

Ingredients

3/4 cup butter or margarine, softened

1/2 cup sugar

1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour

Filling

2 packages of cream cheese, 8 ounces each, softened

1/4 cup sugar

2 eggs

3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Topping:

3 cups thinly sliced peeled tart apples

1/2 cup sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Combine the first four ingredients. Press onto the bottom of an ungreased 9-inch springform pan.

In a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla, mix well. Pour over crust.

Combine topping ingredients, spoon over filling.

Bake at 350 degrees for 55-65 minutes or until the center is set. Even a tight fitting springform pan may leak. To prevent drips, place the pan on a baking sheet in the oven.

Cool on a wire rack. Cut into wedges with a serrated knife.

Will serve 12-14 people. Store in the refrigerator.
