TRUDY DAY
Weather is, of course, the big story.
It is so heart-warming to see the caring that is demonstrated day after day as the snow builds up. A special thanks goes to Snow Angels Jon Adams, Scott Crane, Tim Day, Scott Fuller, Leo Sanders, Norris Stephens and Mike Young.
One angel lost his K-40 CB antenna. If found, call the Good Grief at 267-0709.
Another huge pat on the back goes to the Boundary County road crew, who are doing an amazing job keeping the roads clear. Try traveling to a different county — if you can — and check out their roads; there is no comparison.
Thanks, also, goes to our wonderful volunteer firefighters, including chief Brad Lowther, Austin Crane and Mike Young, who maintained a safe parameter around a downed tree and electrical line that closed Highway 95 on Thursday morning.
Another casualty of the weather — and the fun that comes with it — is Jacob Callister, who broke his collar bone while snow-boarding. Heal quickly.
Speaking of the Callisters, Ryan celebrated his 41st birthday with his gang including Keith and Diane Comilli, who ventured down all the way from Cranbrook, British Columbia, Canada.
A very happy birthday goes out to Audry and John Woznick, who co-celebrated the occasion with a party at Feist Creek Falls Resort.
The stork visited Heidi and Randall Dowell on Jan. 25. Welcome little Kody Ray Dowell. Papa is proud and mom and baby are doing well.
In other baby news, Chris Bustillos and Christine Gathers, daughter of Evan and Dee Gathers, are expecting their own bundle of joy in May.
Longtime residents Reid and Norma Cairns moved to Oregon to be closer to family when Reid began to show signs of Alzheimer's. He has just had to move into a health-care facility. This is hard on both of them. Norma has asked us all to keep them in our thoughts and prayers.
We received an e-mail from our snow-bird friends Linda Monks and Terry Litfin. They are spending the winter traveling and are currently in California, where they were invited to be "walking scorers" at the famous Bob Hope Classic Golf Tournament. They were paired up with pros and celebrities for this event, and got a lot of sunshine, exercise and a few perks. Won't they have some tales to tell.
On a final note, congratulations to Jesse Lewis, who spent two summers in our area studying and collaring bears for the Department of Transportation as a project for his master's degree. He has completed his thesis and presented it before faculty at the University of Idaho.
Jesse's next goal is beginning course work for his doctorate. He has promised to keep us informed of his progress and plans to visit soon.
