A Bonners Ferry man isn't expected to go to prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Neal A. Mouser, 46, is expected to get a two- to four-year suspended prison sentence, which means he won't serve any time. Mouser pleading guilty to possession of a firearm, a felony, and a misdemeanor unlawful taking of wildlife.

Charges of driving without privileges and shooting a firearm from a road were dismissed after making a deal with the prosecuting attorney.

Without the plea agreement, Mouser could have served more than five years in prison and paid more than $5,000 in fines.

Mouser was released on his own recognizance after serving 57 days in Boundary County Jail. If he commits any crime greater than a traffic infraction while out, the plea agreement will no longer be available and he will most likely be facing prison time.

Mouser will be sentenced 10:30 p.m. March 25 at the county courthouse.
