Girls lose bid for states
Bonners Ferry girls lost their bid for states after Priest River defeated the Badgers 58-29 on Saturday during District 1 playoffs in Post Falls.
"We made a good run at districts and were playing our best basketball of the season," said head coach Travis Hinthorn. "That is all you can ask for. We just came up short on this game."
During the first game on Feb. 6, Senior Samantha Hiatt led the Lady Badgers to a 49-44 victory against Priest River Spartans with 18 points and 7 steals.
Senior Camille Robertson scored 13 points and had 10 rebounds. Sophomore Erin Hiatt added 4 steals and 4 assists.
Samantha Hiatt ended the game with 3 free throws to seal the win.
Lady Badgers then advanced to play Kellogg on Feb. 7.
The girls had a great start, leading by two points at the end of the first quarter and were tied at half time, Hinthorn said. Kellogg built a 6-point lead and the Badgers couldn't catch up.
They lost 49-40 with Robertson leading with 9 points and 10 rebounds.
"We got Amanda Seeling in foul trouble, but could not make a run at them with her on the bench," Hinthorn said.
The girls then played Priest River to determine second place standing, and who would go to state.
Robertson led the girls with 11 points and 8 rebounds.
Lacy Hopkins of Priest River dominated with 18 points. It was her best game of the year.
Kellogg and Priest River moved on to states, which will be held today through Sunday at Middleton High. School.
