New animal shelter president on right path
As a past member and secretary of Second Chance Animal Adoption, I would like to express my thoughts regarding the new board of directors of SCAA.
I resigned from the SCAA board in September of 2005 after years of dedicated service due to chaos and turmoil within the board. It was a very tumultuous time for many of us on the board, but I vowed to leave always hoping and praying for the success of SCAA.
Approximately one year ago, I had the opportunity to meet and discuss the current activities of SCAA with the new president Rhonda Hamerslough. After spending about 2 1/2 hours with Rhonda, I walked away knowing that SCAA was on the path to success with her leadership.
Since that time, I have been invited to attend many board meetings — anyone is invited — and I have come away each time knowing that SCAA now has a board of directors that this community can be assured will continue with the mission that this organization had started with.
The new board of directors are a group of individuals who are professional, intelligent, educated and articulate. They have spent a great deal of time considering all the options available to them.
After consulting with numerous construction experts, they came to the inescapable conclusion that it was financially and functionally necessary to sell the present property as is and embark on the path to a new smaller facility, which would be purchased with funds from the sale of the current property and funds currently on hand.
I concur wholeheartedly with their decision.
I encourage anyone who has questions or concerns regarding any decisions that this board makes to contact Rhonda; she is always willing to meet and listen to anyone. I am confident that we will have a shelter in this community and this board will get the job done.
Negativity will only hinder this process; we all need to support this board and their decision. After all, isn't it all about the animals?
