Decision about shelter baffles reader

| February 28, 2008 8:00 PM

The recent controversy surrounding the current Second Chance Animal Adoption board's decision to sell the existing unfinished shelter and land has weighed heavily on my mind.

As the executive of the Mary Ellen Thomason estate the question is, what would Mary Ellen want? It was her request that a community shelter be built to provide refuge for all Boundary County homeless animals. It was her love of animals that prompted her generous donation.

This shelter and land should not be sold but completed. It does not make good business sense to sell something that is paid for and start over.

I have always had a good working relationship with the past board and believe that what is happening now is a mistake. I personally believe Mary Ellen would want to see the existing shelter completed and open to accepting animals.

It is my sincere wishes that the community and SCAA members join me in demanding that the sale of the land be stopped and the current board resign. We need to honor Mary Ellen's expectations and complete what was started in her name.
