Bonners Ferry native Brian Zimmer-man has been promoted to lieutenant with Idaho State Police.

As part of his new job, Zimmerman transferred from Pocatello to Boise.

The 1975 graduate of Bonners Ferry High School started his career in 1982 with Bonners Ferry Police Department. He joined ISP in 1985, and was initially stationed in Coeur d'Alene, patrolling high accident areas.

Zimmerman was promoted to corporal and transferred to Bonners Ferry, where he served for 17 years. In 2005, Zimmerman was named sergeant and was stationed in Pocatello. The 50-year-old's latest promotion was on Nov. 26.

As lieutenant, he will oversee five sergeants, who supervise 45 troopers in Boise.

For 20 years, Zimmerman has been a DUI instructor and has taught DUI enforcement at North Idaho College.

Zimmerman and his wife, Roberta, have been married for 28 years; the former Roberta Dillin is also from Bonners Ferry.

Their children are Leo, 27, of Moscow; Kurt, 25, of Sandpoint; Luke, 24, of Provo, Utah; John, 22, of Coeur d'Alene; Amy, 20, of Pocatello; and Joe, 17, of Pocatello.

Brian Zimmerman is the son of the late Dean and Louise Zimmerman. Brian Zimmerman's sisters in Bonners Ferry are Darlene Schneider and her husband, Phil, and Ladean Win and her husband, David.

Roberta Zimmerman is the daughter of Bob and Helen Dillin. She has a sister in Bonners Ferry — Teresa Mulvaney and her husband, Mike.

Penny Ross-Howell of Bonners Ferry would like to thank a resident on Meadow Creek Road, who allowed her to use his telephone after she was in a car accident on Dec. 20.

Dave and Brenda Walter had their children home for Christmas. Michael Walter, 30, came in from Albuquerque, N.M., where he is a captain at Kirkland Air Force Base.

The Walters' daughter, Sarah, was home from Boulder, Colo. The 27-year-old is an electrical engineer with an electronics firm.

While home, the family went downhill and cross-country skiing.

Dave is vice-president and manager at Panhandle State Bank in Bonners Ferry. Brenda is director of curriculum for Boundary County School District.

Devon Huggins, the daughter of Margaret and L.D. Huggins, also came home for the holiday. Devon is a freshman psychology major at Gonzaga University in Spokane. She also minors in dance.

Devon will return to school in mid-January so she can practice for a play she's appearing in. Devon will be a dancer in the Japanese folk story, "The Crane Wife."

While she's home, Devon is working in the pharmacy at Boundary Trading Co.

Joe Ryan, the son of Cindy and Marty Ryan, also was home through Jan. 1. The 19-year-old is in the Army in Fort Benning, Ga. He had not been home for six months.

A 2007 graduate of Bonners Ferry High School, Joe's siblings are Katie, 17, and Danny, 12.

Another 2007 Bonners graduate also came home for the holiday. Jennifer Putnam, 19, is studying physical education at North Idaho College in Coeur d'Alene, in hopes of becoming a gym teacher.

Jennifer is attending NIC on a soccer scholarship. While at Bonners Ferry High School, she was named All American and All Region.

She is the daughter of Kim and Art Putnam.
