Bonners Ferry Wrestlers defeated 3A St. Maries 38-28 during a meet on Dec. 28, but fell to 5A Coeur d' Alene 66-6.
"It was a first league win," head coach Conrad Garner said about the victory over St. Maries. "At least we had Christmas Break to take time to work on bad moves, and improve them for the Priest River dual on the third (Jan. 3)."
"Coeur d'Alene is a very mature and experienced squad that outpowered and outmoved us," Garner added.
After 42 seconds, 112-pound Badger Dusty Koehler defeated St. Maries' Ron Cordle. Bonners Ferry's Dayne Swisher won by fall in the 140-pound class after 3 minutes, 17 seconds, against Keaton Buell of St. Maries.
Winning by forfeit for the Badgers were Ben Watt at 103, Josh Carpenter at 119, Mia Solt at 125 and Trevor Hampton at 130.
Bonners Ferry's 135-pound Brandon Schmitz lost to Rick O'Donnell by a decision of 8-3, and 145-pound Badger Aaron Stockdale fell to Troy Sines of St. Maries.
Losing by fall was 152-pound Badger Joe Nuemeyer after 2 minutes and 45 seconds. Nuemeyer lost to Ryan Huddleston of St. Maries. Also, 160-pound Badger Michal Kraus lost to Ricky Avalous in 29 seconds.
St. Maries' 171-pound Blake Sines and 189-pound Brett Speelman both won by forfeit.
Against Coeur d'Alene, Solt won by an 11-5 decision against Jake Graham. Swisher won by fall after 3 minutes and 28 seconds against Colin Lomack. Hampton defeated Jake Graham 5-2 during an exposition match.
Losers were Koehler by fall after 3 minutes and 20 seconds to Ken Stuub; Carpenter after one minutes and 20 seconds to Bradon Mowery, Stockdale after five minutes and 44 seconds to Kevin Moore, Nuemeyer after one minute and 40 seconds to Alex Krapas and Kraus after 18 seconds to Jesse Nuelson.
Watt lost by a major 12-3 decision to Andrew Palmer, and Schmitz lost by a13-8 decision against Alex Murren.
Losing by injury was Badger Isaiah Grey against John Peregrina. Grey broke his jaw.
