Swisher, Solt lead Badgers in loss to Sandpoint

PRIEST RIVER — Bonners Ferry's Dane Swisher scored a major decision over Sid Winter at 140 pounds, and Jeremiah Solt pinned Colter Sigman at 125 pounds to lead the Badgers in their 51-31 loss to Sandpoint on Jan. 3.

Badger Dustin Kohler defeated Sandpoint's Jacob Porter 4-2 in a hard-fought match at 112 pounds — both wrestlers grinding on the mat in the non-league match at Priest River Lamana High School.

Sandpoint gained the remainder of its points via forfeit.

"We gave up too many forfeits," said Badger coach Conrad Garner. "They wrestled well, but got out-foxed in a couple of key matches."

Sandpoint's Timmy Pepperdine and Leonard Fister each posted first period pins to help lead the Bulldogs.

Fister pinned Badger Joe Neumayer at the end of the first period at 152 pounds, and Pepperdine pinned Joe Carpenter at 1:47 in the second round.

For the junior varsity match, 103-pound Badger Reid Boorman pinned two Bulldogs in separate matches. Badger Robert Lundgren pinned a Bulldog in the 119-pound class, but lost to a Priest River wrestler.

The Badgers will wrestle on Friday, Jan. 11, and Saturday, Jan. 12, in the Rocky Mountain Classic in Missoula, Mont.
