Four Bonners Ferry High School cross country runners competed in the Footlocker West Regional Race at Mount San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif., last month.
Senior Melody Braden finished 96th out of 116 in the seeded division, which requires a minimum time to enter.
Badger seniors Camille Robertson and Rayanne McLeish finished in 107th place in 23:53 and 111th in 24:02, respectively. A total of 158 competed in the class.
Sophomore Dylan Sweeney placed 71st against 149 sophomore boys, completing the course in 18:49.
Ten female and ten male runners from this regional race were chosen to compete in the Footlocker Nationals.
Bonners Ferry students traveled to California with runners from North Idaho and Spokane, who were organized and escorted by Kurt Kinghorn of Runner's Sole of Spokane.
Traditionally participants walk the course ahead of time, but torrential rain made it too slippery. On race day, the course had to be changed to be basically a road race.
Bonners Ferry students also went to Disneyland, Venice Beach and Hollywood.
Badger cross country coach Paul Bonnell and assistant Mike Tymrack prepared students for the race. Students also chopped and loaded firewood to make money for the trip. Jim Cadnum and Bonners Ferry Runners Club also donated funds and a yard sale fundraiser was held at the Eagles Club.
