Melvin Wilbur Potter, 84
Melvin Wilbur Potter, 84, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at Boundary Community Hospital in Bonners Ferry.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, at Bonners Ferry Funeral Home with burial at Grandview Cemetery.
Mel was born March 28, 1924, to Leslie and Dorothy Potter, living in Faulk County, S.D.
Mel was educated in South Dakota's public school system.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on a destroyer escort in the Pacific.
After an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy, Mel entered schooling in the Government Banking System. When he qualified, his area of employment was California as a National Bank Examiner. He also had several assignments to foreign countries.
In 1977, Mel married Rosaria Dexter.
He re-tired and moved to Montana, living in the Curley Creek/Old Highway 2 area.
During retirement years in the Troy area, Mel enjoyed being a part of the Business Men's Club and the Senior Center.
Every day in Montana was a 'bonus' to his life in so many ways. All aspects of outdoors were inspiring. He enjoyed being 'on the go,' traveling, eating out, reading and gardening (rearranging) the woods.
Preceding him in death were his parents, and brothers Delmar, Donald and Richard Potter.
Survivors include his wife in Bonners Ferry, a sister Evelyn Fagg of Troy, and numerous nieces and nephews.
