At 1 a.m. Friday, Cliff Kramer was awoken by a vehicle outside Feist Creek Resort.

The owner of the Eastport area restaurant and motel, Kramer walked out to find Grammy Award-winning country music star Clint Black’s tour bus. Black got off the bus to greet Kramer, who lives above the restaurant.

“I don’t know how he found us,” Cliff Kramer said. “He just stopped by. He’d heard about it (Feist Creek) and swung by to see it.”

Kramer played the good host by taking Black, whose hits have included “A Better Man,” “Killin’ Time” and “Like the Rain,” on a moonlight walk to the waterfalls.

“He said he would be back,” Kramer said.

Black, who left a box of T-shirts at Feist Creek, was on his way to Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, for a concert on Friday. Black on Saturday was scheduled to play at Two Rivers Casino and Resort in Davenport, Wash.

Before going to Davenport, Black made another quick stop at Feist Creek. He gave the Kramers and their employees T-shirts and CDs, and signed autographs. Black has written, recorded and released more than 100 songs. One-third of them hit song status on country radio.

“We gave him a couple North Idaho elk steaks,” Cliff Kramer said. “His driver said he would cook them. It told them how to cook them.”

“He seemed like a real nice guy,” Kramer continued. “He said if he every got the chance, he’s be back. Who knows. I know his driver said he was definitely coming back.”
