The Bonners Ferry City Police Department had no female police officers last year. After Sept. 2, women will make up 25 percent of the force.
City council recently hired Bonners Ferry High School graduate Tiffany Murray as an officer.
Murray, who has a bachelor’s in criminal justice, will fill a vacancy with the Aug. 1 retirement of Police Chief Dave Kramer. Murray is a community service officer in Nampa. She also has worked for Ada County Sheriff’s Office.
Murray will join Bonners Ferry’s first full-time cop, Jeanette Woodward, who joined the force in January.
The starting pay for a patrolman is $16.62 an hour.
The police department has eight full-time officers. Six work the 24-hour, seven-day-a-week patrol shifts. Another works full time for the Boundary County Task Force. The other is the resource officer and spends about 75 percent of his time in Boundary County School District.
