Bonners Ferry Lions Club had more than 150 children at its annual Free Fishing Day Saturday at Snow Creek Lions Pond near Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge.

“It went really well,” said club member Dave Noel. “It seems like all the kids seemed to catch fish and all had a really good time. People were there until dark.”

The biggest fish caught was a little over 10 pounds.

The Lions club gave out 150 bags with fishing gear, fishing poles and gift certificates from Far North Outfitters in Bonners Ferry. More than 350 hot dogs and sodas were served.

The Snow Creek Lions Pond, which was stocked with 800 rainbow trout by the Kootenai Tribal Hatchery, will be open for fishing this summer.
