Local community support for youth is truly amazing
When we moved to this community a little over five years ago, I was apprehensive about what this community would be like. I did not need to worry.
This is a great community, which really supports the youth. One example of this sense of community is the way people in this area support the scouting program. I am a cub master for Cub Scout Pack 188. We recently sold honey to raise funds for our day camp.
The community and Boundary Trading Co. were very generous in helping the boys succeed. We reached our goal and will be heading to day camp this month.
Through scouting activities, we teach our youth life skills and core values that they can draw on throughout their lives. The generosity of this community helps us make these programs happen for our youth.
Another example of the support for our youth came at a bike rodeo we put on for the Cub Scouts. Once again, the community was very generous. Chris with Far North Outfitters came to inspect the boys' bikes and make adjustments so their bikes would function properly. Their business donated water bottles for the children who participated. That was one of the favorite parts of the evening for those boys.
The City of Bonners Ferry and Idaho Transportation Department also loaned us traffic cones for the event. The boys had a lot of fun and learned valuable skills in bike safety and maintenance.
I am sure I could list many more examples of how this community makes a difference in the lives of the youth. I appreciate such generous acts and a willingness to invest in our future leaders.
