Museum undergoes renovations

Boundary County Museum has come a long way from what Bonners Ferry residents might remember visiting as a child.

It recently underwent a renovation that included opening an addition, painting and rearranging artifacts so they tell a story.

“It is really rewarding to make a contribution like this to the community,” said museum volunteer Gini Woodward.

The work is far from done. An entrance from Bonners Ferry Visitors Center, an outdoor display and remodeled bathrooms are planned for the future. The work will be done by BF Builders.

“We are really fortunate to have BF Builders doing the work,” said Woodward. “I know it’ll be a good job.”

The work is expected to cost a total of $130,000. Funding will come from donations, such as money left by former Bonners Ferry resident, Mary Ellen Thomason, and fundraisers like the Quilt Festival on July 19 at Boundary County Fairgrounds.

New on display is bedroom furniture donated by Thomason from the Hawkins’ house. The Hawkins were longtime Bonners Ferry residents.

The museum charges a $2 entrance fee and can be visited from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
