Though winter is winding down - they promise - we still have had a few opportunities for our Snow Angels to flex their wings.

Kathy Woodbury lost her chimney last week, and Norris Stevens came to her rescue. Norris always seems to be there when someone needs a helping hand. Thank you.

Another casualty of the heavy snow was Vic Chervon and Linda Tanaka's chimney. No more cozy fires this season.

Penny Ross-Howell, who works at the Northwest Duty Free in Easpsort, would like to thank Paul Wheeler for helping her out after she had an auto accident on Moyie River Road. The vehicle didn't fair well, but Penny's fine.

Local author and songwriter Alvin Mattila recently received notice that Hilltop Records in Hollywood has chosen his composition Hug a Stranger to be recorded on their new compact disc. We will be looking forward to its release.

Tyler Hannaman and Bradley Thompson enjoyed the snow when they went skiing on a field trip to Schweitzer Mountain with Mt. Hall School on Feb. 27.

Speaking of these young men, both of their countywide PTO basketball teams won their opening games on March 4. Congratulations.

Cliff Kramer let us know that former neighbor Wilma Higgins visited the gang. She stayed with Ken and Pat Beck for the week of Feb. 28, and joined friends at Feist Creek Resort for an evening of dining and fun.

All were pleased to see Wilma looking so good and well rested. It turns out that she just returned from a trip to the Virgin Islands - a gift from her son.

Bill Sills traveled down to Marine Corps Camp Pendleton in Southern California to visit his son, Capt. William H. Sills IV, daughter-in-law Jenn and the apple of his eye - a new granddaughter, Lizzie.

The younger Sills has since been deployed to Iraq with the Marine Logistics Group as officer in charge of shipping and receiving/ maintenance and operations in command of 90 Marines. We all wish him a safe tour of duty.

Also traveling were Tim and Sharon Day, who went to Oregon to visit daughter and son-in-law Heather and Jeff Stuttrud, and the amazing - just ask grandma and grandpa - baby, Morgan.

Not to say any one of us is anxious, but on Friday, March 7, Matt Flieger was seen in a T-shirt and shorts, and heading for the Moyie River with his pontoon.

It would be a good bet that he was the first on the river this season. Reporting in after, Matt said that the sun was warm, the water cold, and though he didn't catch any fish, he did enjoy seeing the wildlife.
