Fundraiser planned for leukemia victim Steven Dalesky
New and gently used items are sought for a fundraiser for a local man with chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
Diagnosed 12 years ago, Steven Dalesky is in need of a bone marrow transplant. Without one, the 59-year-old retired road worker could die within two to three years. Insurance will cover part of the cost.
Assuming Steven gets the transplant, his wife, Toma Dalesky, will be unable to work for a minimum of 100 days. Toma, who works full-time at the Dollar Depot and More, will have no income during that time.
Items for the 1 p.m. April 6 brown bag auction at Bonners Ferry Eagles Club can be dropped off at Dollar Depot on Main Street in downtown Bonners Ferry. The deadline is March 31.
Cash donations can be made to Steven Dalesky, in care of Mountain West Bank at 7186 First St., Bonners Ferry.
In addition, a bake sale to benefit the Daleskys will be held 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 5 outside the Dollar Depot.
For information, call Dolly Bolling, manager of the Dollar Depot, at 267-3286 during the day or 267-1918 in the evenings.
In another matter, Dolly's lost and found box is piling up at the store. She is looking for the owners of two girls' winter coats - one is light green and the other is dark green. Dolly also found two sets of keys. One has keys for a Chevrolet, a post office box and a remote door lock. The other set has a key for a Ford and a padlock.
To claim, call her at 267-3286.
Terry Taylor sent us a picture of two moose in her yard.
“One morning I had let my dogs out and they were back in the house in a second, barking,” Taylor said. “I wondered what all the fuss was about so I went out to my porch. To my utter amazement, there stood two moose not six feet away. They were in no way afraid so I went back in the house to get the camera. Mama moose just stood there and posed for me. After a while they wandered off. I have not been in the area long, and it was such a thrill for me to see wildllife up close.”
