Bonners Ferry baseball team goes two for three at Orofino tourney

Bonners Ferry High School Baseball Team won two out of three games in Orofino over the weekend.

In the first game, Orofino pitcher Jeff Vicory scattered 6 hits as the Maniacs edged the Badgers 8-5. D.J. Wright of Orofino went 4-for-4 with 2 doubles and a 2-run homer to lead the Maniacs.

Badger pitcher Connor Herdt took the loss giving up 6 runs on 8 hits. Reliever Greg Taggart pitched 2 2/3 innings, striking out 7 and walking none.

The Badgers got their first win of the season beating Joseph of Oregon 11-2. Senior pitcher Jake Watt had a perfect game going until the fourth inning when Joseph's K.C. Kinkle hit a single to right center.

Watt finished the game, giving up 2 hits, striking out 5 and walking two. Senior A.J. Bennett went 2-for-3 with a 2-run triple and Greg Taggart got two hits and 4 RBIs.

Finally, Bonners Ferry edged Timberlake 8-7 in a time shortened non-league match in the Orofino tournament. Junior Greg Taggart pitched 3 strong innings giving up only 3 hits and 3 runs while striking out 5 and walking 2.

Bennett and Kyle Nakagawa had 2 hits for the Badgers. Bennett, Nakagawa and Chad Nordhagen each hit doubles.

The Badgers (2-2) play their first home games Friday and Saturday, March 28 and 29, during the 3rd annual Bonners Ferry Tournament. Bonners Ferry plays Timberlake at 11a.m. Friday. Saturday the Badgers will face Wallace at 11 a.m. and Sandpoint junior varsity at 4 p.m.
