Fire department selling address signs

To help emergency responders find the nearly 3,800 properties in Boundary County that were recently assigned new addresses, South Boundary Fire District has a proposal.

As a fundraiser, the Naples-area fire department is selling 6- by 18-inch reflective blue signs with 3-inch white numbers for displaying new addresses. Residents can also custom order signs from the fire department, which will sell them throughout the county, said fire chief Tony Rohrwasser.

“They can be mounted on a mailbox post, on a post, or onto a metal fencing stake,” Rohrwasser said.

South Boundary Fire District firefighters will install signs for $5 for those within their district. There is no charge for senior citizens.

“If installed properly, it will be easier for emergency responders to find a location,” Rohrwasser said.

The new addresses will replace “HCR” addresses. It was done so the county will have more accurate and informative county maps.

The new addressing system, which accurately pinpoints the location of nearly every road, street, alley and driveway in the county, was done to simplify delivering packages to homes and getting emergency responders to the right location.

The two-sided signs being sold by South Fire Boundary District will be $15.

Funds raised will be use to complete the community room at the fire station in Naples and to acquire markers for finding fire hydrants buried by snow.

The signs will be on display during the annual Helping Hands' Spaghetti Dinner from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 28, at Naples Elementary School.
