Morgan appointed to planning commission

Matt Morgan, manager at Boundary Trading Co., has been appointed to a four-year term on Boundary County Planning and Zoning Commission.

Morgan replaces John Kellogg, who chose not to seek another four-year term when his expired in January. Kellogg served one term.

“It's a committee that I think is pretty important and I'm just interested in how the community grows,” Morgan said about his interest in applying for the position.

The commission reviews the county zoning and subdivision ordinance, Comprehensive Plan and makes decisions on various land-use applications, lot line adjustments, variances and commercial site plans. The board also makes recommendations to county commissioners on subdivisions, special-use permits, zoning amendments and area of impact agreements with incorporated cities within the county.

Born and raised in Kellogg, Morgan joined the family business - Boundary Trading Co. - after graduating from Kellogg High School. It was about the same time that the company acquired the former Bargain Giant in Bonners Ferry, which is now BTC.

Morgan left the family business to attend Lewis-Clark State College in Coeur d'Alene and then worked for Coca Cola as a business development manager for four years while living in Coeur d'Alene.

Six years ago, Morgan took the job at BTC in Bonners Ferry.

He is married to Tanya and has a stepson, Branden; daughter, Kayleigh; and son, Matthew.
